I DL'ed a program to see why my Maxtor External drive was running slowly. It
disabled all of my USB ports. I ranted and raved, I tried cold boots,
unplug, replug, change plug, almost even butt plug. I took it apart and
reset those funky 3 pin things by moving from the first 2 to the second 2
and back again, I have NO idea what this does but I saw a guy do it once.
Anyone explain??
SO eventually after almost 2 hours, I packed the computer away, got out my
receipt and decided to let the shop do it. That was until I saw the receipt
was from 21/03/06, so my garauntee ran out less than a week ago. At about 50
quid an hour, I decided maybe I'd try one more time. Up the attic, got my
old keyboard and mouse set found after 20 min. Located batteries and set up
the PC. Deleted the program, ran all the usual suspects (ad/virus/spy) and
replugged the USB, viola, 10:30 and I'm done.
All working, really feel stupid and bad about not making the dungeon guys.
On the bright side I saved a few bob and have no work next week so I can
stay up late :-)
