| On an unbelievably windy morning
in Cambridge Spartak gave a demonstration of football that arguably has not been
matched this year.
After losing the toss, and nearly the coin in
the force 10 gale, Spartak had the wind at their backs for the first half. They
quickly took control of the game passing the ball from the back and creating with
some good movement. The breakthrough came with one such move which ended when Chris
put Fricker through to slot home with the outside of his foot. With all eleven
battling hard the second came when Chris put pressure on their centre back who
inevitably lost out and the ball broke free, and with the keeper bearing down on
him, Fricker stuck out a leg and curled the ball into the top corner. Frickers
hatrick came after some good work by Doc down the right and with the aid of a
deflection gave the keeper no chance.
Fricker still had time to
make two glaring misses one which came back off the post and the worst which was
creamed into the next county from 6 yards.
Would a 3 goal advantage
be enough kicking into the ever strengthening wind? Spartaks instructions were to
play the ball along the ground and keep up the work rate. They not only maintained
their work rate but increased it with all eleven getting stuck in showing true
desire to win the game. Chesterton naturally had more of the game kicking with the
wind but solid defence from Matt, Owen, Rich, Withers and later Knights kept
Chestertons chances down to a minimum. The work rate was rewarded when John fed
Steve whose less than convincing shot crept in at the near post. Two further goals
came with Chestertons heads having gone down slightly. Both went to Fricker and both
resulted from some good work down the right, first by Bowman then by Matt, letting
Fricker score an unpresidented 5 goals.
Chesterton did get a
consolation when a hopeful ball forward bounced over Sam and into the net. This put
a blemish on an otherwise outstanding performance by Sam in as stand in keeper.
A fantastic performance by all. Well Done! |
