| Spartak went into this game
looking to build on their good performance last week. Not knowing what to expect
from a side they have never played before, they hoped to get the result as well.
With the numbers looking depleted midweek Spartak managed to get a
strong squad of 12 out on Sunday. After sorting out changing room problems and sweet
talking the referee Dave took the captaincy again and the only decision to make was
what to do on the right midfield. After winning the toss and forcing Bayer to squint
in the autumn sun Spartak started with the simple tactics of pass it around and
attack more.
The tactics started proving dividends immediately with
Spartak getting the ball down and passing it, even backwards sometimes at times, and
midfield having acres of space to run the show. The first clear cut chance came with
about 10 minutes gone with Chris running on to a flick on but was celebrating before
he shot and put a shot in that Johny Wilkinson would be proud of, between the posts
but over the bar. Five minutes later he redeemed himself with the opening goal.
Spartak continued to pile on the pressure, with the defence not really being
troubled, Spartak again broke through this time with roles reversed. Chris flicked
on to Dave who blasted in the second goal. The third goal came from a corner 10
minutes later with Steve swinging it in, and after a number scuffed shots and
clearances the ball pinged up to Dave who turned it in with his left peg to get his
second. 3-0 was how it stayed until half time.
3-0 at half time OH
NO!! Were Spartak going to do there usual trick and throw away a half time lead
again or had a new leaf been turned over. Spartak went out in the second half
expecting an onslaught from Bayer but with orders of same again. Bayer did attack
but Owen, Matt, Rich and Sam kept it tight. These attacking tactics from Bayer left
them even more exposed at the back and in midfield and when Spartak forced a corner
Chris scored his second after it came back of the bar, but with what he turned it in
with only he can say. This opened the flood gates (well kinda') and 5 minutes later
a ball from Bren down the right for Chris to chase led to a pinpoint cross for Dave
to turn in his third with a header at the near post.
With 20
minutes still to go there was still time to add two more. Steve got his first of the
season a 20 yard strike into the corner and Graeme slotting home after a mazy
dribble through the defence.
7-0, a fantastic result after numerous
disapointments in previous weeks. This could be the turning point in Spartaks season
and with a cross-divisional up next, Spartaks form will be truely tested
