| Well, this is the big one. After
an amazing season which saw Spartak produce three great cup runs and an intermittent
league campaign, the payoff is this CDFL Cup Final against Division 1's Darley Stud.
On past meetings between these teams Spartak are extreme outsiders having being
defeated heavily on both the occasions they have met. However, in their defence
Spartak will claim that they were never near their bast in either match and can play
a lot better than that.
Which is the truth, they
can, but Spartak are a schizophrenic team who can perform wonderfully one weekend
and the next put in a performance Leeds would be embarrassed by.
If they are to have any hope of success in this
match they have to do two things which they have frequently failed to achieve this
year, start well (in both halves) and convert chances to goals. If they had managed
these two things throughout the year then certainly promotion could have been a
posibbility.
As it stands though reaching the
final is a great achievement for the Spartak lads who have shown a lot of
commitment and effort over the long season. The final reward of a piece of
silverware would be truly deserved if they could achieve it. They have to believe
they can do this and hopefully on Sunday will attack the game in order to prove
this.
Bookies are no longer taking bets on this
fixture apparently although we have heard of one punter who has fantastic odds on a
spectacular treble - Spartak to win the cup, Chelsea to win the Champions League
and Elvis to make a comeback at the St Ives Women's Institute Annual Dinner in June.
